Independent Bank - Austin Headquarters

conduit architecture+design principals, Kobey Seale and Eric Ciskowski, performed as Project Managers for the Jim Wilson Architects during the design for Independent Bank Austin Building. Conduit a+d performed construction administration services. The approximately 17,000 square-foot building houses the southern corporate offices for a private bank, a mortgage company, tenant lease space, and a branch bank with two drive-through lanes on the ground level. The three-story structure also includes two levels of underground parking garage. Careful consideration was given to the building and landscape design for the achievement of a LEED Silver Certification. Working in collaboration with local Austin artist, Lance Letscher, the design is energized by the dialogue between the architect and artist. The site, a very small east-west oriented rectangle, created many challenges and opportunities, and almost every single inch, both horizontally and vertically, was utilized in the design solution. In an effort to create a building expressing its presence and stability, yet maintain the unique “casualness” of Austin, the north half of the building is clad in local Texas limestone while the back half will be sheathed in metal. As a bridge between the commercial intensity to the east and the slower-paced, more residential area to the west, we hope this project will set the tone for stitching the two together.
